Guide to Boosting Your Domain Authority by 7 Points in Just 14 Days
Wide angle picture of beautiful young girl kid wearing casual sweater showing and pointing up with fingers number seven while smiling confident and happy.

Why should I read this long post only to gain 7 points?

Well, 7 points may not sound like much to you, since Domain Authority is measured on a scale of 0 to 100.

7 points can result in 200% spike in traffic – maybe another 100% increase in click-through rate! And another 150% increase in conversion rate.

These figures sound speculative, but trust me; I will provide you with tips for at least an appreciable increase in DA.

Don’t just take my word for it until you have given it a try for yourself.

What you need to know is that just a point increase in DA could take forever, if the right things are not done.

But I will show you how you can get the climb in your DA, all in 14 days. There’s one caveat though – you need to apply the tips to the letter.

Call it an SEO doctor’s prescription and you won’t be far from the truth.

Let’s get our DA party started right now.

The main topics covered in our guide on boosting your DA include:

  • A Few Words about Domain Authority
  • Understanding DA Logarithmic Scale
  • Getting High-Quality Links
  • Overhaul Your SEO
  • Creating Valuable Content For Your Readers
  • Maintaining a Healthy Link Profile
  • Your Weekly Planner
  • Conclusion

A Few Words about Domain Authority

Domain Authority (DA) is best described as a ranking metric used to predict a website’s ranking. It has evolved into an accepted standard for online marketers who are involved in SEO practices.

Moz is behind the development of DA which it measures using a logarithmic scale from 0 to 100. More details on the logarithmic scale will be provided later on.

The higher the DA, the better your site ranking and the higher the traffic from search engines. As you may have guessed, DA isn’t some static figure as the DA for your site could go higher or lower.

A lower DA is a cause for concern, especially when there is a huge drop. However, everyone welcomes a higher DA.

Even though Moz tells us that any site’s DA can be increased or decreased, it isn’t as easy as it sounds.

That’s because a lot of factors go into computing the DA for any site, more like 40 different factors, you can see how much effort has to go into boosting your DA.

Moz uses a proprietary technology called the “Mozscape web index” to determine the DA of any site. This means that the factors used at arriving at your site’s DA are not disclosed to anyone.

There are, however, some factors named by Moz that include MozRank, MozTrust, and Link profile.

Since DA is the product of a number of factors, you need to improve on those factors that you are aware of. These are the one’s elements used for computing DA along with its logarithmic scale.

Before delving into the right steps to take for boosting your DA, let me furnish you with a detailed explanation of Domain Authority’s logarithmic scale.

Understanding the DA Logarithmic Scale

The Logarithmic scale is a geeky way of saying that the numbers of a scale are nonlinear (the numbers do not follow in a sequential order). This means that the numbers are not arranged as 1, 2, 3, …, but rather follow a particular formula designed by the owner of the system – in this case, by Moz.

This is how Moz designed its logarithmic scale for DA determination.

The lowest number on the DA logarithmic scale is 0 while the highest number any site can attain on DA is 100.

Let’s assume that we have 2 sites named abc.com and xyz.com checked for their DA! By the way, you could have your DA checked on http://moz.com/researchtools/ose.

If abc.com has a DA of 65 while xyz.com has 55 as its DA, it means that abc.com has a higher ranking, and so has the potential to gain higher traffic than xyz.com, given a particular keyword.

So the goal of every site owner is to have a DA as high as possible.

Remember I said earlier that the logarithm scale doesn’t follow a linear order. To get from one number to the next, there are a lot of metrics that the Moz algorithm has to compute.

I’m not going to state all the metrics here because quite frankly Moz doesn’t make them public. What it does make public is; the higher you go in the DA ladder, the tougher it gets to increase your score.

If you have a DA of 75, it is harder to gain 7 points than someone else with a DA of 20. So a 7 point gain in DA is relative based on your current DA.

The tips I will be sharing here could easily take your DA from 15 or 20 to 7 points higher. For a 7 point movement from 75, 14 days is practically impossible to achieve a 7 point gain.

These simple but powerful steps can take your DA from the current level to one plus 5 points, within the next 14 days.

1. Getting High-Quality Links

Avoid link schemes like the plague because of their harmful effects on your DA.

Instead, strive for high quality backlinks for your blog posts.

How do you go about getting high-quality backlinks on your posts? A simple place to start is creating quality blog posts that people would want to link to.

Internet marketers call it plain old content marketing strategy. It is effective for positioning your brand using quality content. It is also an effective strategy for organic link-building.

We have all come across amazing content we never wanted to forget. What most people do is to bookmark the content, so it can be retrieved anytime.

If your content produces that kind of effects on your readers, many would want to bookmark it, and also share it on different networks they belong to.

Here is the big one – others will link back to your content if they find it resourceful. That’s a great way of paying due respect to you.

Instead of falling for the bait of link building schemes, focus on getting quality links in exchange for your quality content.

2. Overhaul Your SEO

Your SEO is the single largest factor affecting your DA.

I hope I said that right because SEO isn’t a single activity, but an umbrella term that includes all you do to improve your search ranking.

It’s so important that Moz advises you to focus on enhancing your SEO to see obvious changes in your DA. I call this an overhaul of your SEO.

An effective SEO includes those things you do on-page and off-page to rank higher. Some things that may require a change include:

I. Your Site’s Meta Tags – The title and Meta key descriptions used by search engines to understand your site, and index it based on the information provided.

While humans need to scan or read through your content to determine the relevance, search engines do with the Meta tags you provide.

If the Meta tags do a great job of describing your content to search engines and humans, your DA goes up.

II. SEO For Mobile Devices – More than half of your site’s visitors use mobile devices to access it. That in itself is enough reason to create a mobile version different from the one for desktop computers.

Google also acknowledges the growing importance of mobile by launching its Mobile-first index.

You should have 2 distinct categories, one for desktop and the other for mobile. And pay more attention to the mobile, since it brings in more traffic for you.

It is important that your website has a responsive design, faster loading speed, ease of navigation, and great user experience.

3. Create Valuable Content for Your Readers

Here’s how it works; valuable content attracts valuable traffic, which in turn leads to an improved SEO. So you find that there’s so much value in creating content of value.

Content of value isn’t exactly part of the SEO technique, but it contributes greatly to its success. So while working to improve your DA, you might as well pep up the value of content you produce.

Create content with in-depth information on varied topics. Let your blog content be comprehensive enough to satisfy any questions about the topics.

Detailed posts could be long-form or short-form; the length makes very little difference. Let the posts be long enough to fully address the topic and short enough to exclude any redundant words or phrases.

Quality is key; so, emphasize on this during content creation. Keep your words, sentences, and paragraphs as short as possible.

Use a lot of whitespaces to make your content more legible. Make use of enough subheadings and lists to make your posts scannable.

Also include high-quality images, infographics (where necessary) and videos in your posts. All videos should have alt text added for devices that do not display images.

All these practices will produce content that your readers will find valuable.

4. Maintaining a Healthy Link Profile

Your link profile can be described as the backlinks that have been earned by your website. These backlinks have to be healthy in order to have a high DA.

A link profile that has different backlinks is suggestive of a trustworthy and authoritative site. At least that’s how it appears in the eyes of Google.

The online search giant has guidelines that it expects each website to follow in link building. Once your link profile fits these guidelines, then Google regards your site as a healthy one, while other link building strategies that violate Google’s guidelines are called “link schemes”.

If you want Google and other search engines to regard your site as an authority, you must avoid link schemes.

Putting it all together, the goal is to improve your DA by at least 7 points, within 14 days. So now that we have the tips to use, let’s set out a plan on how to accomplish them.

Your Weekly Planner

If I got my Math right, 14 days would be exactly 2 weeks. So we adopt a weekly planner to get the job done.

Week 1 – Have your link profile accessed to ensure that it is healthy – links not coming from any link scheme sources.

Tweak your site’s on-page SEO with particular focus on site speed, user-friendly navigation, Meta tags, and mobile SEO.

After taking care of the first two items for the week, you can now get into the nitty-gritty of content creation.

Follow our guide on creating quality content that would appeal to your readers.

Week 2 – Content creation continues according to your calendar. You should have a schedule for publishing the content, and I strongly suggest you follow through on it.

The length of your posts is your call to make, but ensure that it is long enough to contain all the needed information.

Start building your backlinks using the methods that were mentioned in this post.

Try getting a minimum of 2 backlinks before the week runs out.

You may also consider reaching out to authority sites in your niche, and also influencers. You can always work out a win-win situation to quality backlinks from them.

While everything else is going on, don’t stop creating content.

One word of advice – Be consistent with your posting as much as possible. You need to maintain the steam, so your DA doesn’t stop at adding only 7 points.

Conclusion

Domain Authority (DA) ranks websites based on a number of metrics such as the quality and health of backlinks.

DA was developed by Moz for online marketers to help with tweaking their SEO strategies.

Sites are measured on a scale of 0 to 100, using the DA logarithmic scale.

A 7-point boost in your DA may not sound like much, but it can lead to over 100% increase in traffic and CTR.

To help you achieve a 7-point boost in your DA, I outlined 4 simple, yet powerful steps to follow. These steps will provide you the needed boost within 14 days, but it doesn’t end there. You can continue with these to help you increase your DA over time.

So when does your 14-day period commence? Right now would be perfect; just ensure that you follow through with the steps.

By the way, do you have any suggestions/recommended websites with high DA where I can write the guest posts to create high-quality backlinks? Because most of them that I found require expensive fees, and I can’t afford it.

ps: The niche of my site is about “making money online”

  2. Hi there thanks for the insightful review. Domain Authority (DA) is a search engine ranking score developed by Moz that predicts how well a website will rank on search engine result pages. Domain Authority is calculated by evaluating multiple factors, including linking root domains and the number of total links, into a single DA score. I must say these are really cool way of boosting DA, judging from your post.
